Obedience & Problem Solving

Just got an new puppy? Or maybe you have an older dog who needs a reminder on their manners? Start here if your pup needs assistance with basic cues (sit, down), has some potty problems, lacks impulse control (Wait, stay, ‘leave-it’), leash walking skills, or has other unwanted behaviors (jumping, barking, and more).

Behavior Adjustment Training

If your pup barks at or lunges towards other dogs, dislikes strangers inside or outside the home, or has a history of biting, they may be a good candidate for Behavior Adjustment Training (B.AT.) Don’t let the ‘ruff’ days bring you down.

We used Mountain Paws Training to help us with training our rescue dog (a German Shepherd). Jocelyn was a miracle worker! She had expert knowledge and got our dog to behave in public and at home.

I consulted Jocelyn about my reactive pooch after a couple of years trying to troubleshoot the problem with online advice. That single hour consult was well worth the call.

I reached out to Jocelyn several months back ad Rondo had been exhibiting resource-guarding behavior, digging, and other behavioral issues that we wanted to correct. From the initial, very thoughtful consultation and quote to scheduling and Jocelyn’s appointment confirmations, prompt and dependable attendance, working with her has been a breeze. Rondo has shown significant improvement in all of the behavioral concerns we had expressed previously. Jocelyn is both creative and dynamic in her teaching styles, and is willing to try a different method, bring in additional resources, or test out different venues to re-create real-life experiences, such as going on a walk with Rondo and I at the river to help correct his issue with picking up trash and eating it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the consultation? Where do we meet?

The initial consultation occurs in the comfort of your own home. This allows us to meet the dog and determine how they react in their natural environment. These consultations average about 90 minutes long. We go over a list of questions about your dog’s history, habits, schedule, behavior, and more to identify inappropriate behavior, potential triggers/stimulus, and help make the best training plan for you and your family. We serve Idaho Falls, Ammon, Blackfoot, Rexburg, and everywhere in between!

What does Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive mean?

Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive, (LIMA) describes a trainer or behavior consultant who uses evidence-based tactics to succeed in training or changing a dog’s behavior, using veterinary and science-backed practices. It’s about taking the time to understand the dog and what’s causing the behavior, before deciding on the most effective training method. This is also a competence-based approach, so dog trainers and animal behavior consultants are required to keep learning throughout their careers. With our furry friends, one size does not fit all.
